My interest and love of painting began at High School, where I was taught by the renowned Scottish Colourist, Archie Forrest. Watching him paint inspired me to apply to Glasgow School of Art, where I studied from 1984. Having the freedom to develop my style was exhilarating and along with the tutelage of the extraordinary Barbara Rae, I graduated with a BA (hons) Fine Art in Drawing & Painting in 1988.
Since Art School I have been lucky enough to have exhibited at many galleries, both in solo and group shows. These include: Panter & Hall, The Scottish Gallery, The Oxford Gallery, Richard Hagen Fine Art, Ainscough Contemporary Art and The Green Gallery.
I have work in many private and public collections, including: BBC Scotland, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Perth Art Gallery and Fife Museums.
I was honoured to have my artistic achievements recognised by being elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 1995.
I gained further recognition by winning several prizes including The Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award and The Maude Gemmell Hutchison Award.
In 1996 my dream came true- I became Artist in Residence at Edinburgh Zoo. What a joy to be surrounded by my favourite subject matter!
Working mostly in watercolour and water based media, I explore the natural world often using my love for pattern, combining it with everyday paraphernalia such as - shoes, keys, kitchen implements…nothing is safe from being added to my paintings!
My work is often described as ‘quirky’ - I rather like that!!
I now live and work in the beautiful and historic town of Linlithgow, surrounded by my cats, chickens and dog. Inspiration at every turn!
